Jean works with acrylic paints whose material properties lend to similar environmental cycles, patterns, washes, and highlights found in nature. Her creative process relies initially on observations translated through manipulation of paint, to give an overall sense the everyday walking through nature. At times motifs of her memories of walking with her African nannies, within the Australian native landscape, portrays a meeting of two cultures past and present.
How we use, destroy, and nurture the natural environment, is displayed through the semi-abstract. Via erasure and layering of glazes with opaques a possible visual explanation aims to move the viewer from the negative to a more thought provoking positive co-existence with nature.
